At a special fan event held at Abbey Road Studios in London, Paul McCartney performed his first duet with Ringo Starr. Titled “Home to Us,” the song was released this Friday, the 8th, as the second track from Paul's upcoming album, The Boys of Dungeon Lane.

The musician surprised 50 lucky fans invited to an exclusive listening session of his new album, joining them in Abbey Road's Studio Two to share stories behind the new songs and recordings.

Following the acclaimed “Days We Left Behind,” “Home to Us” is Paul’s first duet with Ringo Starr and features backing vocals by Chrissie Hynde and Sharleen Spiteri . The song was built from a drum track that Paul invited Ringo to record for the album, produced by Andrew Watt , and is the only track on The Boys of Dungeon Lane to feature a guest drummer. Paul plays most of the instruments on the new album, much in the spirit of his 1970 solo debut album, McCartney

Regarding “Home to Us,” McCartney comments:Ringo stopped by the studio and played a bit of drums. I told Andrew we should record a track and send it to him. So, this song was written entirely with Ringo in mind. In writing it, I'm talking about where we came from. Like a lot of people, you come from nothing and build your life. Ringo was from Dingle, and it was tough there. He said he used to get mugged on his way home because he was working. Even though it was crazy, it was our home.”

“I composed the song based on that idea and sent it to Ringo. He sent me back a version where he had only added a few lines to the chorus, so I thought, ‘maybe he didn’t like it.’ I called Ringo, and he said he thought I only wanted him to sing one or two lines, and I said I’d love to hear him sing the whole song. So, we took my first line, Ringo’s second line, and did a duet. We’d never done that before. Then, we wanted some backing vocals, and I had the idea that it would be cool to hear girls. Chrissie Hynde said she would do it, and Sharleen Spiteri too – they’re friends. So, they did.”.

TheBoys of Dungeon Lane is Paul McCartney's first solo album in five years and will be released on May 29th via MPL/Capitol Records.
