In the latest episode of the McCartney: A Life in Lyrics , Paul McCartney satisfied fans' curiosity and revealed his favorite Beatles , also telling the story behind the track.

“I’m always asked what my favorite song I’ve ever written is, and I never want to answer,” McCartney explained. “But, if pressed, I’d say ‘Here, There and Everywhere’”.

The ballad is a track from the 1966 album Revolver , and was composed by Paul. The eternal Beatle said that one of the reasons he likes the song so much is the structure of the lyrics, where the end of one verse leads to the beginning of the next.

The musician also revealed that dancer, singer, and actor Fred Astaire was one of the inspirations for the track, saying he was a fan of Fred and had always loved his voice, also citing the iconic song "Cheek to Cheek": "It's one of my favorite songs because of its structure."

The story behind the music

During the episode, McCarthy recounted that he wrote the track while waiting for John Lennon to wake up.

“I would go to his house for a songwriting session, and he wasn’t always awake. So, often I had 20 minutes, half an hour, while someone woke him up. I remember sitting by the pool at his house in Weybridge, a golf suburb in London. I had my guitar because I was ready for the session. Then I started something. It was very nice and relaxed. That way, after John got up and had his coffee, I would already have something to continue with.”
