Paul McCartney reveals addiction after the end of the Beatles: "It was a very difficult period in my life"

The musician will talk about his addiction to music from his new album

Paul McCartney is about to release the album Egypt Station and during an interview with MOJO , the former Beatle revealed the theme of one of its songs.

“Happy With You” will address a dark period in the musician's life: “I used to drink too much / Forget to come home,” Macca explained, referring to the time when the Beatles came to an end.

“I was upset and in the middle of this shitty situation where someone was going to take every penny we had made. That wasn't easy and led to a very difficult time in my life. I definitely self-medicated and drank more than I ever had before, and probably more than I've ever drunk since. But you get over it.”

When asked if he was unhappy while acting this way, McCartney replied that he was, revealing that he used as examples friends who managed to stay sober after dark periods, such as Ringo Starr and Joe Walsh of The Eagles : “When we were growing up, everyone went to the pub to drink, but for the most part it all seemed very cheerful. But when I talk to Ringo about it, he says, 'No, if you gave me vodka, I'd have to finish the bottle.'”

But Sir Paul McCartney revealed that he had moved past that phase and confessed to "not having time" for such things. Today, he drinks only one large glass of wine.

Egypt Station will be released on September 7th, and you can check out the cover art and tracklist here.
