Paul McCartney participates in a march for gun control in memory of John Lennon

"One of my best friends was a victim of this violence."

Sir Paul McCartney participated in an anti-gun march in New York in memory of his colleague and friend John Lennon.

The movement took place last Saturday, the 24th, and brought together hundreds of thousands of people in major cities across the United States to demand stricter gun control laws.

Called the "March for Our Lives," the events included the participation of several celebrities, including McCartney, who during an interview with CNN explained the importance of the march: "One of my best friends was a victim of gun violence near here," he said about the assassination of John Lennon in 1980.

The marches have gained momentum following the shooting in Parkland, Florida, which left 17 dead after a former student of Stoneman Douglas High School stormed the school with a rifle. The tragedy became the 14th shooting at an educational institution since the beginning of the year and is among the 10 deadliest in recent United States history.
