Yesterday, the 7th, one of the most celebrated drummers in music turned 80. Of course, we're talking about Ringo Starr , and the artist celebrated the date with special guests and lots of music.
Artists such as Paul McCartney, Dave Grohl, Elvis Costello and many more played great Beatles while the birthday boy showed off his drumming skills.
Starr usually celebrates his birthday in partnership with a Hollywood NGO; however, due to COVID-19, his annual plans were disrupted. But that didn't mean the musician wouldn't use his platform to donate to charities and talk about current issues like the Black Lives Matter , one of the initiatives that received donations from the drummer.
“There is no greater act we can do than to stand up and speak out when you see injustice,” says Ringo. “I don’t even need to tell you that the beginning of the Beatles’ success was heavily influenced by what we found in American artists. We loved listening to Ray Charles, Little Richard is my hero, Stevie Wonder, Sister Rosetta Tharpe , I saw her live at 'The Cabin', and my stepfather’s favorite, Billy Eckstine . The list is endless.”
"Black lives matter. Stand up and make your voice heard," the artist stated.
