Paul McCartney album is on its way! McCartney III arrives on December 11th, marking the 50th anniversary of the self-titled McCartney from 1970, which was later followed by McCartney II in 1980.
The album is the first from the music legend since Egypt Station , and according to McCartney, in an interview with Loud And Quiet , the release only proves his lack of commitment to what could be his farewell album. “Everything I do is supposed to be my last. When I was 50, it was like, ‘This is his last tour,’” he recalls. “And I was like, ‘Oh yeah? I don’t think so.’ It’s a rumor thing, but it’s okay. When we did Abbey Road I was dead, so everything else was a bonus.”
“I was living a life of confinement on my farm with my family and going to my studio every day,” he says in a press release. “I had to work a bit on some film music, and that turned into the opening track, and then when it was finished I thought, ‘what am I going to do next?’ I had some things I’d worked on over the years, but sometimes time ran out and the music would be left unfinished, so I started thinking about what I had. Each day, I would start recording with the instrument I wrote the music on and gradually layer everything together. It was a lot of fun. It was about making music for yourself rather than making music as a job. So I just did things I enjoyed doing. I had no idea it was going to end up as an album.”
McCartney III , which was written, performed and produced by Paul McCartney, is now available for pre-order here .
