Van Eaton Galleries charity auction , hosted by U2 guitarist The Edge to benefit the Music Rising , raised over US$2 million (approximately R$11.3 million) this past weekend in Los Angeles, United States.
According to the Guitar World , the proceeds reached this amount thanks to the prices paid for historic instruments. One of them, the Yamaha BB-1200 bass that Paul McCartney used with Wings , fetched US$496,100 – more than R$2.8 million. It was the first record bid of the night and surpassed by one hundred thousand dollars the Fender Mustang of Bill Wyman that was sold in 2020 as the most expensive bass ever sold at auction.
McCartney's instrument was joined in the record books by Eddie Vedder which sold for US$266,200 – about R$1.5 million – a price that broke the record for the most expensive six-string guitar ever sold at auction.
According to the U2 guitarist, all the funds will be distributed among American musicians who have been severely affected by the pandemic.
