Former Iron Maiden vocalist Paul Di'Anno did n't hold back in his criticism of Ghost of the classic "Phantom of the Opera." In a now-deleted post, Di'Anno said:
"Everyone's asking my opinion on Ghost's cover of Phantom. Not that my opinion matters, but it's awful." The post concludes with three vomiting emojis.
"Phantom of the Opera" originally appeared on Iron Maiden's debut album in 1980, one of two albums that Paul Di'Anno recorded with Iron Maiden.
Ghost's New EP
Tobias Forge 's band's version was released this week as part of the Phantomime , which, in addition to the Iron Maiden classic, also features Genesis Television 's "See No Evil The Stranglers ' "Hanging Around," Tina Turner 's iconic "We Don't Need Another Hero (Thunderdome) .
Ghost will be performing in São Paulo on September 20th and 21st.
Forge explained why he chose an Iron Maiden song for Ghost's cover EP: “When I was a kid, I used to sit with 'Live After Death' [Iron Maiden's 1985 live album] and that's when I knew for sure that I wanted to be a professional musician. And that I wanted to go on tour. I had an idea of the concept of touring, but a lot of my knowledge came from looking at 'Live After Death' and all those dates and places they played. I'd sit with a huge map and draw where Maiden played, how often, the dates. That inner part of the record has a lot of information about life on tour.”
