Paul Di'Anno: Former Iron Maiden vocalist's health is "only getting worse"

Singer awaits surgery estimated at R$100,000, and fans are trying to raise funds

Paul Di'Anno , the first vocalist of Iron Maiden , is still waiting for important knee surgery that could get him out of his wheelchair. At 63 years old, the musician was recently photographed by a friend to raise funds for the operation.

Unable to walk for seven years due to health complications, Di'Anno is awaiting surgery through the local healthcare system. According to Kastro Pergjoni , owner of the pub where the band debuted and responsible for the crowdfunding campaign to help the vocalist, "now it seems that the only way to get [the surgery] quickly is privately."

In a photo published last Saturday, the 25th, the Cat & Horses pub made an appeal for new donations. "Let's unite, fans and friends of Di'Anno, to support him in this long battle… This is the latest situation and it's only getting worse as time goes on," they wrote. The singer appears with significant swelling in both knees. 

Estimates from private doctors indicate that £26,000 (R$109,900 at the current exchange rate) will be needed to operate on both of Di'Anno's knees. Currently, the fundraising campaign for the surgery is in its second phase, aiming to raise the remaining £15,000. Anyone can donate through the crowdfunding website .

In addition to being unable to walk, the vocalist's critical health condition had already presented a life-threatening risk and the possibility of leg amputation , which was ruled out at the time.
