In the latest Wikimetal poll, Pantera was voted the best thrash metal band outside the Big Four with 29% of the votes. Sepultura and Exodus , with 21% and 16% respectively.

Although they began their career with a sound more based on Glam Metal, Pantera's evolution was heavily influenced by the Thrash Metal of the late 80s. The band's style is often associated with something between Groove and Thrash Metal.
