Pain Of Salvation is promoting their latest album, In The Passing Light Of Day
Amid numerous requests of "Please, come to Brazil," the Swedish band Pain Of Salvation returned to the country three years after their last visit. Now, with Johan Hallgreen back in the lineup, replacing Ragnar Zolberg, the band came to promote their latest album, In The Passing Light Of Day , released in 2017. The album tells the story of the four months vocalist Daniel Gildenlöw spent hospitalized due to a back infection caused by a flesh-eating bacteria.
The shows, originally scheduled for February, had to be postponed due to the lead singer suffering from a severe case of the flu, which prevented him from traveling. The anticipation was evident on the faces of many there. The venue was packed, and nerves were frayed during a wait that felt much longer than it actually was: Finally, they were back!
Starting the show with three songs from the new album, “Full Throttle Tribe”, “Reasons” and the highly anticipated “Meaningless”, Pain Of Salvation showed what they were made of, and how happy they were to be back on Brazilian soil, and with a full house.
The setlist was full of hits. “Linoleum,” from Road Salt One , was just the first of a series of songs from older albums. “Rope Ends” and “Beyond The Pale,” from Remedy Lane , considered by many to be the high point of Pain Of Salvation’s discography, were followed by the unexpected “Kingdom Of Loss,” from Scarsick (2007), and “Inside Out,” from One Hour by the Concrete Lake (1998).
“Ashes” from The Perfect Element Part I was another song with the chorus sung by everyone, followed by the calm “Silent Gold”.
After a rather long pause, and numerous requests for them to return for one more song, Pain Of Salvation came back not for one, but to play two more songs: “Inside” and “In The Passing Light Of Day”
The chorus requesting the song "Disco Queen" opened the door for a promise: to play it the next time they come to Brazil. And hopefully not too long from now!
