Ozzy: No Escape From Now , a documentary showcasing previously unseen footage from the final years of Ozzy Osbourne , revealed details of his first meeting with Ronnie James Dio . The film is now available on the Paramount+ .

In the book, Sharon Osbourne , the singer's widow, recalled the moment. According to her, Ozzy, upon learning that Dio would be his replacement in Black Sabbath , became resentful. Because of this, the Prince of Darkness tried to stab Ronnie with a fork during their first meeting. This revelation occurred when Sharon caught Osbourne watching an interview of her rival on YouTube, years after his death, in 2010 .

“I asked him, ‘Why are you watching Ronnie?’ He replied, ‘I feel sorry for him. I feel terrible.’ Ozzy never heard any of those [Black Sabbath] records. He never met Ronnie. The first time he met him was when he tried to attack him at the Rainbow [a bar in Los Angeles] with a fork. He never really knew the guy and never understood his music. So he feels really bad. Then he watches Ronnie James Dio’s interviews and I’m like, ‘What the hell are you doing?’”, he said [transcription via NME ].

In July, legendary drummer Vinny Appice denied rumors of a feud between Ozzy Osbourne and Ronnie James Dio.

“Ozzy always told me how much he loved Ronnie. Everyone created this thing that they hated each other, but he talked about it all the time. Things get blown out of proportion on the internet and you don’t know what the truth is, and what’s going on. He used to sit down and tell me about Ronnie too. You know, that he really liked him and this and that. And there are some pictures on the internet where they’re together, one of them seems to be at a festival. They’re there, together,” he stated at the time to Trunk Nation [via Metal Injection ].
