After the world witnessed Axl Rose , frontman of Guns N' Roses , become the vocalist for AC/DC , the idea of another singer from a major band fronting another famous group doesn't seem so strange. And that's exactly what almost happened with Ozzy Osbourne and Van Halen .

In an episode of the SiriusXM show Ozzy Speaks , Ozzy recalls a memorable phone call from Eddie Van Halen , “He called me once and asked if I wanted to sing in his band – long after Sammy [Hagar ] had left the band. I think he was a little drunk. We’ve all done that before, calling at 4 a.m. literally talking like, [in a classic drunken, garbled way].”

In the interview, Osbourne also describes the impact of EVH's arrival on music, and when Black Sabbath invited the band to open for them on tour in 1978, “You think you've seen it all. Then out of nowhere, someone comes along with such a revolutionary way of playing. Watching Eddie play was like, his hands would turn into a spider. It was incredible. He always made it look so easy.”
