Ozzy Osbourne has revealed that he is physically preparing for what is expected to be his final live performance, scheduled for the Back to the Beginning , which will take place later this year in Aston Villa, Birmingham — his hometown.
During a conversation on the Ozzy Speaks program , Ozzy's Boneyard channel , the vocalist told host Billy Morrison that he had started an intense workout routine (transcribed by Loudwire ).
“I’m training hard for this show in Aston Villa,” he said. “I haven’t done anything for almost seven years. It’s been surgery after surgery. It’s like starting from scratch.”
At 75 years old, Ozzy has been facing a series of health problems that have kept him away from the stage, interrupting his No More Tours 2 . Now, he wants to regain the minimum physical stamina necessary to take the stage one last time.
“I’m focusing on endurance. When you stay still for too long, the first thing you lose is your breath. Believe it or not, I’m doing two three-minute walks a day and also weight training. I need to move,” he said. “Although three minutes may seem like a short time, after so many surgeries, it represents a complete restart.”
The Back to the Beginning festival will mark the farewell of the classic Black Sabbath , with Ozzy Osbourne alongside Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward . The event will also celebrate the vocalist's solo career and will have Tom Morello (Rage Against the Machine) as musical director. The lineup includes bands such as Metallica, Slayer, Pantera, Gojira, Halestorm, Lamb of God, Mastodon, Anthrax, and Alice in Chains .
