Ozzy Osbourne has officially entered the world of NFTs. In a new video, the musician appears with Sharon Osbourne to explain the Prince of Darkness's motivation for starting this new venture.

Called CryptoBatz , Ozzy's collection of NFTs (non-fungible tokens) will be released on January 20th with 9,666 unique virtual pieces, featuring bat designs created in reference to the incident in which the artist bit the head off a bat during a show in the 1980s.

In announcing the collection, Ozzy explained that he decided to create his own collection after Sharon refused to buy an NFT from Bored Ape Yacht Club, a popular series of digital paintings of irreverent monkeys that has grossed over $1 billion in sales. “Cryptobatz is a very crazy project for NFT collectors and fans. The design pays tribute to one of my most iconic moments on stage and is a chance to acquire a rare piece of art history,” he said in a statement (via Ultimate Classic Rock ).

In the video illustrating the behind-the-scenes of the audacious creation, Ozzy continues this narrative and recounts how Ozzy "was becoming a laughingstock among his friends" for never being able to acquire the most popular NFTs, since these tokens are unique and tend to sell quickly.

“But my Ozzy doesn’t give up. He started thinking, started working, and locked himself in the library for a few weeks, creating something grand. (…) His mission was to create an NFT collection that wasn’t another celebrity heist, to create something wonderful, full of utility and unique,” Sharon explains while the video shows Ozzy frantically and obsessively sketching images of bats.
