Ozzy Osbourne was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame for the second time on Saturday, the 19th, this time as a solo artist, where he was honored with a tribute performed by Billy Idol , Robert Trujillo , Zakk Wylde, and others.
His first nomination was in 2006, as a member of Black Sabbath . The new release is a tribute to his solo career, which began with Blizzard of Ozz in 1980.
The ceremony took place at the Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in Cleveland, Ohio, United States. The tribute began with a speech by Jack Black and featured performances by Billy Idol, Maynard James Keenan ( Tool ), and country music artist Jelly Roll . The backing band included Robert Trujillo, Zakk Wylde, Wolfgang Van Halen , Chad Smith ( Red Hot Chili Peppers ), Steve Stevens , and Andrew Watt .
Kicking off the performance, Maynard started with "Crazy Train," which was introduced by Ozzy himself with the iconic opening "All Aboard!". Following that, Jelly Roll sang the ballad "Mama, I'm Coming Home," and Billy Idol closed with "No More Tears."
During his nomination speech, Ozzy quickly thanked the fans, as he didn't want to "boring" the audience with a lengthy monologue (via NME ). He also gave special mention to his late guitarist Randy Rhoads and his wife, Sharon Osbourne : "I have something to say to a guy who goes by the name of Randy Rhoads. If I hadn't met Randy Rhoads, I don't think I'd be sitting here now. And even more so, my wife Sharon. She saved my life. And my grandchildren and my children. I love them all."
