Ozzy Osbourne had an aversion to Christmas: "I hate Christmas, it deeply irritates me."

Ozzy Osbourne revealed in an interview that he used to drink heavily to cope with Christmas

In an interview with The Sun , dated January 2025, the late Ozzy Osbourne recalled how much he disliked the Christmas season. The Black Sabbath , who died months later on July 22, 2025, at the age of 76, said he struggled to stay sober. He recounted how he used to drink "28 gallons" of alcohol to cope with this period.

The metal icon spoke openly about his addictions and how he dealt with them at the time. He recounted that he would start drinking before Christmas Eve to endure the festivities. He would drink the equivalent of 224 glasses, as he hated the period. At the time, he saw this behavior as a way to escape and minimize his aversion to Christmas.

“I hate Christmas. It deeply irritates me. When I used to drink and get drunk, I bought myself a barrel with 106 liters of liquor. I drank it all before Christmas Eve,” he said.

The musician, also known as the Prince of Darkness, also said that he struggled with sobriety every day. In recent years, he faced several health problems, which made this battle even more arduous. He said that although he wasn't completely sober, due to his health issues, he felt tempted to use harder drugs.  

Ozzy finished his autobiography just days before he died

Ozzy Osbourne's autobiography, Last Rites , is the singer's second and final book. Released on October 7th, it was completed just days before his death on July 22nd, at the age of 76.

The book chronicles virtually his entire life, not only his decades-long marriage to Sharon Osbourne but also his health battles, as well as his return to the spotlight with the show Back To The Beginning .

In an interview with Blabbermouth , Jack Osbourne , Ozzy's son, spoke about the book, revealing that few family members had read it. "It's been a difficult time for everyone. For me, the last chapter is what made me reflect the most. He finished reading it a few days before he passed away."

Ozzy Osbourne died less than three weeks after his retirement from the stage, while participating in Black Sabbath 's farewell show , which took place on July 5th at Villa Park in Birmingham, United Kingdom. Approximately 40,000 people attended the event, with 5.8 million people watching the show online.
