In an interview with Metal Shock Finland, Overkill frontman Bobby “Blitz” Ellsworth was asked if he knows why the band isn't part of the Big Four of Thrash Metal, comprised of Anthrax, Slayer, Megadeth, and Metallica. Check out his answer:
"First of all, I think it's necessary to worry about things in your own band instead of worrying about what other people are doing.".
I think they're a huge compliment to the metal community because it demonstrates the power bands have in the industry, playing in venues as big as they do. Obviously, Metallica is worth most of the ticket price because they reinvented music on a huge level, showing that a band from San Francisco could make it happen on such a large scale. And even the new album "Hardwired" is, for me, a return to the aggressive sound that was on "...And Justice For All".
But when it comes to being selected or not, it's just a matter of accounting. When you talk about the numbers, the numbers that make the world go round, that put food on the table, and the numbers that put the Big Four in arenas. They sell enough albums for that.
"For me, it's not a concern. Just being asked about it is a compliment regarding our longevity or persistence in what we do. But it's just a matter of accounting. Whoever sells more records comes out on top.".
