Opinion: Can bands kick fans out of concerts?

The latest wave of controversy in the metal scene involves fans being ejected from concerts for "disrespectful behavior." While the star of the discussion is Corey Taylor of Slipknot, who last week ejected his second fan in a month , Taylor is not the only one. Last month, Tom Araya also ejected a member of the Slayer audience for spitting on him . Furthermore, according to a Facebook post by a Mastodon fan, the band's leader, Brent Hinds, also ejected a fan from a Dublin concert for giving him "negative energy."

Regarding the expulsions carried out by Corey Taylor, unfortunately we don't have clear enough justifications to know what happened. Sadly, the vocalist never made it clear, only stating that the expelled fans were being 'disrespectful' . And Taylor seems to be really losing his patience: before all this controversy, the musician made headlines for punching a fan's cell phone on the ground .

In an editorial on the subject, Metal Hammer writes: “We can probably agree that, despite the violent nature of Rock, violence is unacceptable and people on their cell phones all night is simply unbearable. There isn't a band that hasn't played to an alienated audience, but kicking someone out for that seems a bit harsh. If you paid to get in, rationally, you can do whatever you want?”

With this uncertainty on our minds as well, we decided to post the question for you to answer. Do bands have the right to expel fans from their shows? In what cases would the punishment be justified? What do you think? Leave your comments below!
