See the testimony.

In an interview on The Metal Teddy Bear Experience, Opeth vocalist Mikael Åkerfeldt was asked about the possibility of collaborating with drummer Mike Portnoy, who has previously expressed interest in working with him. Åkerfeldt responded:

"Ah, that's him. I'd say he's quite a workaholic.".

We're friends now. He's a cool guy, a great drummer, I'd love to do something with him.

Initially, when he proposed it, he wanted to do something really intense, and I've been doing that for a long time. I thought, 'Oh, that's not very interesting for me, I want to do something else.'.

So it depends. We've talked about collaborating on the project I had with Steven Wilson, called Storm Corrosion, but it ended up being drums. We didn't need much drumming for those songs.

You never know. It's one of those things that we mention every time we see each other or talk on email. But it hasn't materialized; we have no idea what it should be.

Generally, I'm the type of musician who tries to put everything I have into Opeth, so I don't feel the need to do other projects.

For him, he was in Dream Theater, of course, and now he has Transatlantic, The Winery Dogs, that Adrenaline Mob, there are many bands, many styles.

But I try to bring everything to Opeth, which makes me happy, so there isn't much that I don't explore within the band.”
