Earlier this week, the art world was shocked by the sad news of the death of Olivia Newton-John , who passed away at the age of 73 after a long battle with breast cancer.

Actress, singer, and songwriter, Olivia achieved success primarily for her role in the film adaptation of the musical Grease . Alongside John Travolta , she marked a generation playing the protagonist Sandy Olsson, a studious young woman who falls in love with the troubled and womanizing Danny Zuko .

The artist's death caused a shock in the music world, and several rock stars paid their last respects through their social media accounts. 

On Twitter, Paul Stanley wrote: “So sad. She was everyone’s darling.” Sebastian Bach expressed his sadness and commented: “I can hardly explain how much the movie Grease meant to me, my father, my family and my wife.”

Cause of death

Olivia Newton-John was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1992, at age 43. In 2013, the cancer returned, and in May 2019 the actress revealed that the disease had spread to her back.

The news of Olivia's death was announced via Facebook by her husband, John Easterling . In the post, John wrote that the actress "passed away peacefully in her sleep" at their ranch in California, "surrounded by family and friends." He also wrote that his wife was "a symbol of triumphs and hope during her 30 years sharing her journey with breast cancer."
