Oli Sykes , vocalist of Bring Me The Horizon , spoke to NME in Sheffield, at the band's headquarters, and discussed the creation of the new album POST HUMAN: NeX GEn , the difficulties of overcoming addictions and traumas, and the adjustments after Jordan Fish .

Sykes also commented on the collaborations on the new work with Aurora and Underoath , as well as his plans for the next album and his expectations for the band's future.

The vocalist had already shared in 2015 a personal journey of struggle against drug addiction. In a very candid account, Sykes recounted how this dark period influenced the creation of the album Sempiternal , released in 2013.

The singer also expressed disagreement with the traditional approach to treatment. He criticized the idea that addiction is a disease and rejected the notion that recovery is a daily and perpetual struggle.

In the interview, Oliver Sykes opened up about his struggles with drugs and bad habits, which resurfaced during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown. These challenges were catalysts in the production of the band's new album, POST HUMAN: NeX GEn .

“The song 'Youtopia', from the new album, reflects on the search for a perfect state of being, a recurring theme throughout the project,” Sykes explained. He describes the album as a battle between light and darkness, highlighting the difficulty of staying on the path to recovery. 

Additionally, Sykes commented on Jordan Fish's recent departure, describing him as a fundamental part of the band and his right-hand man during challenging times.

Sykes also reflected on the rehabilitation process and the importance of sharing experiences, highlighting that self-understanding and self-acceptance are essential for healing.
