Decibel Books has announced that the official and authorized biography of legendary Death guitarist Chuck Schuldiner is scheduled for release in November 2025. Pre-order information here .
The book titled Born Human: The Life and Music of Death's Chuck Schuldiner , written by journalist David E. Gehlke, promises to reveal previously unpublished details of the late musician's life in approximately 500 pages.
The book features interviews with people who were close to Schuldiner and includes exclusive images from the career of one of the main forerunners of death metal. In a statement, Beth Welty , the musician , praised Gehlke, who, according to her, "kept the family secrets very well."
“We finally met someone like David E. Gehlke, to whom we could entrust our closely guarded family secret, and this was the inspiration for Chuck’s painful musical journey,” he said [transcription via Blabbermouth ].
“It’s the culmination of different perspectives and experiences, not only from my family and myself, but also from friends, colleagues, and people who knew him. Finally, there is an accurate story of the man, brother, uncle, son, partner, and pioneer that he was,” adds Chris Steele, Chuck’s nephew.
