Of Mice & Men vocalist leaves the band due to health reasons

See the statement.

Of Mice & Men vocalist Austin Carlile announced his departure from the band on Friday following health complications. Carlile has been diagnosed with Marfan syndrome, a genetic disorder that weakens body tissue, primarily affecting the heart, lungs, ears, ligaments, and muscles.

This weekend, the band released an official statement regarding the vocalist's departure:

“Dear Of Mice & Men fans,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce Austin's departure from the band due to health reasons.

As many of you know, Austin suffers from a rare connective tissue disorder called Marfan syndrome, and has suffered from the physical demands of touring since the band began. After a series of surgeries at Stanford University Hospital following the cancellation of our headlining tour in Europe, his medical team informed him of the damage caused by the shows and specifically by his aggressive vocals. They warned that if he continued like this, permanent damage would be caused to his spine and nervous system.

Following the advice of experts, Austin decided it would be best to step away from the band and change his lifestyle to improve his health.

Although we are heartbroken that Austin cannot continue, his health has always been the most important thing to us, and we support this decision and are proud of his perseverance over the years.

We've had incredible and unforgettable years together making music and touring the world, and the four of us are eager to share the next chapter of this band's story with you.

All previously announced shows will go ahead as planned, and we appreciate your love and support. We couldn't have done this without you. See you soon.”
