The year started off exciting for Of Mice & Men : the band announced that on February 26th, their newest EP, Timeless , will be released, much to the delight of their fans.
“There’s an old saying about what you should do when life gives you lemons,” says vocalist Aaron Pauley about the EP. “Unfortunately, to our disappointment, that wasn’t exactly it. We started writing this EP shortly after the first periods of quarantine in the spring of 2020, before we knew the world was about to become a radically different place. Many of these songs were born from a place of wondering how we would fit into 2020 and beyond, both as adults in our 30s and also as a band that has been around for a decade.”
While the long-awaited day hasn't arrived yet, the band has released the single "Obsolete," which comes with a music video. The video is animated and inspired by the project's cover art, and was designed by the prestigious artist Derek Hess . "It's a song about questioning how future-proofing [the act of planning and creating things and situations in the present to lessen the impact of the future] is part of the grand scheme of things, and realizing that maybe we're not there at all," he states. "I think we all wonder, to some extent, whether we'll fit into the future or not, or what we'll be like, or what it will look like. Obsolescence is very prevalent in our lives. We observe how old phones quickly become obsolete, how quickly fads and trends come and go. It's all very easy to ponder when you'll become a covered wagon, a flip phone , or MySpace ."
