The Korn vocalist said that his own band and other nu metal bands like Limp Bizkit and Deftones are the last of their time
Jonathan Davis believes the era of "great rock bands" is over. The Korn discussed, in a podcast, whether current rock acts can replicate the achievements of the last generation of nu metal bands.
“I always said that this last wave – Korn, Deftones , Limp Bizkit , all those bands from that time – are the last great rock bands. That time came and it’s over. Nobody else will do what we did. Nobody else will have that experience. It was larger than life. It was us against the pop bands, man.”
He went on to recall how other genres embraced nu metal groups. “I’m not trying to be arrogant or anything, but it was us against the pop bands. Us against Britney Spears and the Backstreet Boys . Then the hip-hop community started to embrace us.”
Davis recounted a show attended by East Coast rappers. “They were all there. Puff Daddy , Busta Rhymes , Lil Kim .” Korn has collaborated with Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg , for example, while Linkin Park recorded an EP with Jay-Z . “That crossover – I’d never seen anything like it. And I don’t think I ever will again.”
