Noturnall anticipated criticism for the song featuring Ney Matogrosso: "The audience received it very well."

Power metal band invited icon for a cover of Cazuza's "O Tempo Não Para"

The power metal band Noturnall recently released their new album, Cosmic Redemption, marking a new phase for the project. Among the album's collaborations, undoubtedly the most surprising is that of Ney Matogrosso , an absolute icon of Brazilian music, singing Cazuza . In an interview with Wikimetal , vocalist and producer Thiago Bianchi explained the choice and confessed that he expected a mixed reaction from the public, but that didn't happen.

The song “O Tempo Não Pára” was recorded in a completely different way on Noturnall's album, bringing Cazuza's genius to the sound of metal. According to Bianchi, the late singer represents “heavy metal attitude” because he was a rebel with a cause in our country. “Any Brazilian who likes good music likes Cazuza. Anyone who likes attitude, poetry, art in its finest form, and especially anyone who likes rock, that challenging thing, likes him,” he said. “I always had this idea of one day doing a Cazuza song in a more rock, more metal format, because if you listen to his songs and Barão Vermelho , they have a very heavy metal attitude.”

After interviewing Ney Matogrosso on a radio program, the opportunity arose to invite his idol to participate in the song. "I was very moved by a guy of his caliber giving me that attention," he recalls. "Brazilians need to look more and more at what is theirs and be proud; we have things that don't exist anywhere else here. A very unique people, and I am very proud.".

There, the opportunity arose to invite Ney, described by Bianchi as his "ultimate idol," for the long-awaited Cazuza cover, a perfect combination given the history of musical partnership and love between the two artists. "He said he trusted my good taste and that he hoped to do something very special. And I thought, 'Well, now I'm screwed,' because if I didn't have to do something incredible, crazy, now I really had to," he recounted with good humor.

Despite his confidence in the material, the Noturnall vocalist still expected some criticism of the bold project, but that didn't happen. “The fans received it really well, I was somewhat prepared for criticism too, but it didn't come. It's impressive how eager the public is for good, well-made things; they received it with open arms and it was a success. And this song is one of the highlights of our show nowadays,” revealed Bianchi.

Released in April of this year, the album Cosmic Redemption is the band's first after a complete lineup change, with the exception of Bianchi. The vocalist spoke with Wikimetal about touring with Paul Di'Anno , behind-the-scenes recording, and much more – read the full interview here .
