Heavy metal fans Madi Danger and Jay Aspen exchanged Gibson Explorer guitars instead of wedding rings at their wedding last month. Video of the moment and photos posted by the bride herself on Instagram can be seen at the end of this article.
In an interview with the New York Post , Madi explained where the idea came from: “We were talking about which guitars we wanted and we were looking at the Explorers on the Gibson website. I joked about swapping them at our wedding and then we decided to do it. I really like Victorian-style rings, but they're hard to find and the ones we saw looked really cheap and awful. Jay didn't want to buy me a crappy ring and he doesn't like wearing rings anyway.”
"It was a lot of fun because the guitars were hidden for a long time – like when the groom can't see the bride. Only a few people knew about it, so some people were shocked and then excited about it," he added.
The ceremony took place in a Methodist church in Idaho Falls, United States, and had a gothic atmosphere. The soundtrack also did not disappoint, playing, for example, " Mr. Crowley " by Ozzy Osbourne and " Lovesong " by The Cure . The wedding, therefore, managed to be "less stressful and more personal".
