NOFX 2021 with big news: the veterans will release their first album since First Ditch Effort , from 2016, on February 26th. And to already excite fans, the band shared the first preview of the project, which is none other than a collaboration with members of Avenged Sevenfold .
The single “Linewleum”, the first track on the album Single Album , is actually an update of the song “Linoleum”, which was vital to the band's 1994 album, Punk in Drublic .
“I have no idea why 'Linoleum' is the NOFX song that so many other bands cover while other NOFX songs barely get any attention,” says Fat Mike about the new version of the track. “'Linoleum' wasn't a single, it didn't have a video, it wasn't played on the radio, and most importantly, it didn't even have a chorus!!! All popular songs have choruses! What the hell is that!”
“So, one night I stayed up until 4 a.m. checking out all the different versions on YouTube,” he continues. “Watching thousands of bands from over 28 countries (mostly Indonesia) doing 'Linoleum' was a humbling experience. So I decided to write a song that would be a tribute to all those people who learned those four chords and remembered the unrhymed lyrics.”
The artist finally explains how the collaboration with Avenged Sevenfold came about, “So I called the biggest band of all to play some chords on the song. Then M Shadows suggested we make a video together. I figured I could put all the bands in the video. Well, I couldn't fit all the bands in, but I chose a bunch of cool bands! A song about not playing a song that isn't a hit with a video about other bands covering the song! That's why I love punk rock writing punk songs. Rules out the door!”
