In May, a lawsuit was filed against Nirvana for using an image representing the seven circles of Hell described by Dante in his work The Divine Comedy .
The lawsuit was filed by Jocelyn Susan Bundy , alleging copyright infringement over an image that, according to her, was created by her grandfather, Charles-Wilfrid Scott-Giles, as part of an academic project.
Last Thursday, the 21st, American judge Dale S. Fischer denied the request against Nirvana and the Live Nation merchandise division, but a representative for Jocelyn told Billboard that, at the moment, they are "evaluating all options, including reopening the case in the British court."
In addition to this particular case, Nirvana is also facing a second lawsuit filed by Spencer Elden , the baby who appears naked on the famous cover of the album Nevermind . Elden alleges that the use of his image was "child sexual exploitation for commercial purposes" and is asking for the image of his genitalia to be removed from the 30th-anniversary reissue of the album.
