The band claims that Marc Jacobs copied the classic logo for the “Redux Grunge” collection.
Nirvana sued designer Marc Jacobs infringement . Jacobs' "Redux Grunge" collection features t-shirts and other items that use a symbol very similar to Nirvana's.
The lawsuit alleges the unauthorized use of "Nirvana's copyrighted image to promote their products, and as part of a campaign to associate the collection with the band, one of the founders of the grunge movement."
It also states that Jacobs used the "Smiley Face" logo in several unauthorized ways to promote the line. Furthermore, it alleges references to Nirvana such as "Smells Like Teen Spirit" and "Come as You Are" in marketing materials.
Saks and Neiman Marcus were included in the lawsuit for selling the collection.
