In yet another series of "music world bets," after Kirk Hammett revealed he lost a car betting that the Black Album wouldn't be as successful as the band's manager predicted , Steve Albini , producer of Nirvana In Utero , revealed he made a rock 'n' roll-worthy bet with the band.

In an interview with Kerrang!, Albini revealed that the bet, made with all the bands he'd ever worked with, was as follows: if Kurt Cobain , Dave Grohl , and Krist Novoselic beat him at pool, he would produce their album for free. However, if he won the highest score, the band would have to double his production fee. The result? Nothing, as the band rejected the offer out of fear of the outcome.

Grohl once recalled the episode, as reported by Loudwire , and stated, “We were paying him $100,000. Anyone who has the guts to bet something that big must be very good, so everyone said no. Besides, he had his own club. We didn’t want to mess with that.”

After that story, how about adding In Utero to the soundtrack of your next pool game? Listen to the album here:
