Alice Cooper guitarist Nita Strauss, who recently announced her all-female band We Start Wars, was interviewed by Guitar World and spoke about the lack of representation that female bands receive in the music scene.
When asked how the band started, Strauss replied:
“I’ve been trying to put this band together ever since I started playing guitar. I’ve always felt that female musicians are underrepresented in the music scene. It’s not that they aren’t there, it’s just that there aren’t many all-female bands getting attention, especially those with good technique and musicianship. I started looking for great female musicians who could elevate the status of women in music. I met Nicole [Papastavrou, guitarist] a few years ago at a show at NAMM [famous American music trade show] and we started talking, and we realized we have very similar visions. It was a very instant connection and it’s great that we finally have the chance to work together.”
