Nikki Sixx criticized out-of-shape and lacking-stage presence artists in a recent interview about nutrition, health, and exercise with Fresh N' Lean (via Blabbermouth ).
“Many people in my family are overweight. I weigh 88 kg and am 1.85 meters tall. When I go into full cardio and light to medium weight training, I drop to about 83 kg, but I actually gain a little more weight. So I have to work really hard. My body wants to get to 90 kg – it wants to do that,” she said about her workout routine. “And it’s not necessarily for vanity reasons – I simply don’t function well [at a higher weight]; the machinery doesn’t work well. I don’t feel good, I don’t sleep well. Therefore, health and exercise have become an important part of my life.”
The bassist acknowledges a period of excess when he was in Mötley Crüe , especially around the time of the release of the album Shout At The Devil (1983), when he drank a lot of whiskey.
“But I remember trying to do some kind of exercise, training to prepare myself for the shows,” he explained. “People come from everywhere to see you play, and you’re just standing there all tired with a beer belly. I mean, that’s irresponsible. There are a million other bands that would love to have your job.”
The bassist celebrated 20 years of sobriety and maintains a healthy routine to stay in good health, with proper nutrition and good nights of sleep. “When you have a two-year-old, you get to the end of your day – whether writing songs or giving interviews or at work – and that little person needs your time. And I have four older children, and they need their time with their father, and I also have my wife and friends. You can't run out of energy. So, training and fuel are very important,” he concluded.
