During a show in Oslo last Sunday, the 14th, Nightwish paid tribute to the late guitarist and vocalist Alexi Laiho , of Children of Bodom . Laiho passed away in December at the age of 41 due to connective tissue degeneration of the liver and pancreas caused by excessive alcohol consumption.
While Nightwish played the song “The Greatest Show On Earth,” a photo of Alexi Laiho appeared on the screen. The musician was a close friend of Nightwish keyboardist Tuomas Holopainen , and they used to visit each other's homes about 10 or 15 years ago.
“We shared a love for music, for Donald Duck , and for board games – innocent, childlike things,” Tuomas said in an interview with Metal Hammer . “We knew he was having health problems, but when I got the call I fell to my knees. It hurt me so much. I miss him terribly.”
