In an interview with FaceCulture, Tuomas Holopainen, keyboardist and main composer of Nightwish, said that he already has the concept for the new album in mind.
“It’s still very early. All I can say is that I feel really excited for the first time in months, years. And I have six songs now – the music, not the lyrics – but I know what the lyrics will be about. I have the overall concept of the album in my head and I’m very excited to present it to the other band members. I also feel a little relieved to be back and that in the near future we can get back together as a band and start working on these songs.”.
Asked if he has any interest in the business side of the band, Tuomas said: “I have no knowledge or interest in managing or selling shows or anything to do with the business and the money side. So, you just need to find the perfect trustworthy people, because nobody in the band wants to do that. I don't know how to play guitar, so that's why we have Emppu [Vuorinen]. So, everyone has their place. And in that way, I'm not a control freak, because I want these people to do their thing.”
Nightwish's next studio album is scheduled for release in 2020.
The band will be touring this year with the Decades , which celebrates the band's entire career.
