The members of Nightwish have yet to hear any material written by keyboardist and composer Tuomas Holopainen
Floor Jansen , the vocalist of Nightwish , confirmed that work is well underway on the band's next album. "[Keyboardist] Tuomas Holopainen is already writing – and he's very creative – so it's very exciting to see what he's cooking up. And he's keeping everything a secret," she said.
Jansen also said she understands why Holopainen hasn't shared the new songs with his bandmates. "It's like baking a cake and showing the raw batter," she explained. "As a songwriter, I understand that. It needs to stay in his bubble because he's a true maestro. But of course, I'm dying to hear what it will be like.".
The singer commented on the band's creative process. Tuomas writes 90% of everything, but during rehearsals everyone ends up adding a little piece of themselves to each song. "With the album Endless Forms Most Beautiful , I started playing a part that was just a melody and lyrics. I transformed it into something of my own, where I could put my creative energy."
In July, Holopainen revealed that he had “80% or 90% of the material” written for Nightwish’s next album. “It will have 10 or 11 songs. We will start recording in July, so everything is going according to plan. We intend to release it in the spring of 2020.”.
