How far does a band's importance extend? For Nightwish , it extends all the way to the animal kingdom!

New species of crabs found in eastern Austria have been given names inspired by the band's 2015 album, Endless Forms Most Beautiful , and have been christened "Tanidromites nightwishorum".

“New crab species were found in Eastern Austria and lived during part of the Late Jurassic period, around 150 million years ago. While dinosaurs dominated the land, parts of Europe were covered by a shallow, warm ocean teeming with life. 'Tanidromites nightwishorum' was discovered in a fossil reef coral. The diversity and abundance of crabs explored for the first time in their evolutionary history during the Late Jurassic period in Central Europe,” the band wrote.

“Thank you Dr. Adiel A. Klompmaker and his colleagues for this truly fantastic honor (Adiel is a curator of pantology at the Alabama Museum of Natural History).”

The official registry of crabs named in honor of Nightwish was published here .
