Research shows that Hip-Hop has surpassed Rock as the most consumed genre

For the first time, rock music is not the most consumed genre in the United States

Nielsen released its annual report on the music and genres most consumed by Americans in 2017, and for the first time, Hip-Hop surpassed Rock.

According to Nielsen, eight of the ten most listened-to artists of the year were Hip-Hop, with the remaining two being Pop. The company tracks album sales and streaming figures and shows that services like Spotify and Apple Music increased their activity by 59%.

Regarding the rock charts, Metallica leads the Top 5 Artists and occupies third place on the list of best-selling albums.

In terms of best-selling songs, Rock was left aside, with only Imagine Dragons and Twenty One Pilots, both in the Pop Rock/Indie Rock category.
