See the statement.
In an interview with a Romanian radio station, the Iron Maiden drummer spoke about how Iron Maiden selects songs for their concert setlists and commented on the band's discography. Check out his statement:
“We’ve always made great albums and I always say, ‘Ah, this is the best we’ve ever done,’ and people complain like, ‘Ah, you said that about “The Final Frontier”.’ And it is, it’s one of the best I’ve done with the band, until the next one and the next one. And if it isn’t, then you have a problem. But I don’t just talk for the sake of talking.”
What I think is that when you make a masterpiece like "The Book Of Souls," and I said this to Steve [Harris]: 'We should play everything. We should play all the songs from that album.' And of course, that would be an exaggeration, because it's 92 minutes. And that's a whole show, just one album. You can't play anything else like 'Iron Maiden,' 'Hallowed,' 'Number Of The Beast'... or 'Run To The Hills' or whatever else. But it was a silly suggestion. But the point is, it's a great album, so why not play six songs from it?
The best part is that we have longevity. The band has been around for 35, 36 years, right? Forty years in 2019, that's a long time, with many songs written, many favorites that people have. And unfortunately, we can't play a 3 or 4-hour show, which even then wouldn't have everything everyone wants to hear. So we have to be a little selfish in our motivation of what we want to play live, what makes us feel good, what makes us happy on stage, and we play these older songs.
People say, 'You always play this one, or that other one,' because we like them. We love playing 'Number Of The Beast.' We love playing… Well, 'Iron Maiden' will always close the set, no matter what.
So I think that's a great problem to have. If you want to call it a problem.
