Nicko McBrain 's departure Iron Maiden 's tours almost a year ago left fans apprehensive about his status in the band. In a new interview with the YouTube channel Waste Some Time With Jason Green (transcribed via Blabbermouth ), the legendary drummer clarified his current position and spoke about the possibility of recording new studio material with the band.
Despite his retirement from touring, McBrain was emphatic: he hasn't left Iron Maiden.
The drummer confirmed that, although he is no longer on the road, his connection with the band remains intact. “I’m still a member of the band,” Nicko stated. “But what does that mean exactly? Well, I’m still part of the family, so I do a lot of work with the fan club and go out to do Iron Maiden-related things [at conventions].”
The big question, however, is whether this participation will extend to the studio.
McBrain's participation in the upcoming album
Nicko's future on an upcoming Maiden album is still uncertain, but the door isn't closed. The drummer revealed that, although there are no immediate plans for a new record, he might be invited to participate.
“First of all, there are no plans to make a new album yet. That could change,” he pondered. “If that’s the case, maybe they’ll ask me to write some songs.”
McBrain's decision to step away from touring was not easy and is directly linked to a serious health problem that impacted his ability to perform.
