In a recent interview with the BBC , Nicko McBrain named Ringo Starr as his "rock god" and recalled the time when he had a poster of the drummer on his wall as a young man.

“I chose Ringo because he was the first drummer who really influenced my musical genre. I started listening to Dave Brubeck when I heard Joe Morello playing, but Ringo was my first hero. In fact, when I was 11 years old, I had a poster of him on my wall,” he says.

“He was looking over the left side of the drum kit and every night I would go to sleep thinking, ‘That’s the guy. I want to be like him.’ And that really started my career as a drummer. Another thing is that I got to meet him three years ago when he played here in Fort Lauderdale – it was the first time, after all these years, that I had the chance to meet my hero.”

Recently, Nicko McBrain recalled a slip-up he made during the Powerslave that almost led to his resignation from Iron Maiden . Check it out .
