Nick Tosches, music journalist and Rolling Stone contributor, dies at age 69

The journalist was the author of one of the most famous biographies of Jerry Lee Lewis

Nick Tosches , music journalist, has died at age 69. The writer became famous in the industry for his books, such as Hellfire , a biography of Jerry Lee Lewis , and his reviews in Rolling Stone .

The New York Times confirmed that Tosches passed away last Sunday, the 20th, at his home in New York City. The cause of death has not yet been released, but a close colleague of the journalist revealed to the newspaper that he had been ill for some time.

Tosches was considered one of the "Noise Boys," a trio formed by music journalists Lester Bangs and Richard Meltzer . According to writer Robert Christgau , he had "a brilliant mind" and extensive knowledge of the music industry, in addition to being the creator of one of the "greatest bibles of Jerry Lee Lewis."

A journalist since the 1970s, he authored some of Rolling Stone such as Lou Reed 's Transformer and Black Sabbath 's Paranoid . Tosches also wrote seven novels, the last being Under Tiberius in 2015.
