The family of the late Megadeth , Nick Menza , recently stated that the sex scandal involving David Ellefson did not affect their decision to work with the bassist on the documentary This Was My Life: The Story Of Nick Menza .

Ellefson, who was fired from Megadeth in May after his extramarital affair with a young woman was exposed online, is credited as narrator and co-producer of the film, which will tell the story of Nick Menza's life from his early years to his music career. The drummer died in 2016 from a heart attack.

In a statement , Menza's family justified their decision to continue producing the film through Ellefson Films , David Ellefson's production company. "To be clear, certain actions of others do not interfere with our decisions. There are always two sides to every story. We don't know the facts and we don't pretend to know the truth. While recent events have been unfortunate for everyone involved, they have not altered our decision to have David Ellefson as part of this project," the family wrote.

“Nick and David remained good friends after Megadeth, and he maintained close contact with Nick’s sister since his passing. Ellefson was gracious enough to present the Hall Of Heavy Metal History given to Nick in 2018, so it seemed fitting that he narrate the documentary. We look forward to fans seeing the life Nick lived before, during, and after Megadeth. It was a great journey.”

In September, David Ellefson appeared in a 40-second video to officially announce his involvement in the documentary's production. Shortly before, his new band, The Lucid , released their first single, "Maggot Wind ," and recently revealed the cover art and tracklist for their debut album .
