Nick Mason on Pink Floyd: "It's silly that they're still fighting."

"I find it disappointing that two old gentlemen are still so stubborn," said Nick Mason about Roger Waters and David Gilmour

Drummer Nick Mason spoke to Rolling Stone about Pink Floyd . About to embark on his first US tour with the Nick Mason's Saucerful of Secrets , Mason says he has the blessing of David Gilmour and Roger Waters . Mason's new project will be based on the Pink Floyd era before 1973.

“It’s a very strange situation,” he said. “But I think the problem is that Roger doesn’t respect David. He thinks songwriting is everything. And that playing guitar isn’t that important.” He also thinks Gilmour’s decision to continue with Pink Floyd after Waters left in 1985 was a trigger. “I think it upsets Roger, because he thought that without him the band would end. I don’t feel very comfortable talking about it, because the fight is between them and not with me. Actually, I still get along well with both of them. I think it’s disappointing that two old gentlemen are still so stubborn.”

The differences between the pair were set aside on more than one occasion. They reunited in 2005 for a concert at Live 8. In 2010, Gilmour performed “Comfortably Numb” with Waters at the O2 Arena.

Like many fans, Mason finds this battle frustrating. “I think it goes back and forth,” he said. “I think it can get exacerbated by some different opinions about a re-release and how it should be approached.” But that doesn’t mean he’s given up. “I live in hope. I mean, I don’t think we’ll be touring as Pink Floyd anymore. But it seems silly that at this stage of our lives we’re still fighting.”.
