Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds return with their new album on August 30th, Wild God . Today, they release “Frogs”, the second track from the band's 18th studio album.
The journey to create Wild God began with the epic and captivating “Frogs.” The opening lines Cave wrote for the album are powerfully evocative, referencing the first murder in the Bible, the killing of Abel by Cain. He wrote: “Opening the week, he knelt down and crushed his brother’s head with a bone/It’s my great privilege to accompany him home.” This powerful pair of verses became the song’s opening and set the tone for the themes that followed.
Across ten tracks, the band navigates between convention and experimentation, making unexpected turns and detours that intensify the rich emotions in Cave's moving narratives. It's the sound of a group strengthened by reconnection and taking flight. There are moments that fondly recall the Bad Seeds' past, but they are fleeting and serve only to propel the band's relentless and restless movement forward.
Produced by Cave and Warren Ellis , and mixed by David Fridmann , Cave began writing the album on New Year's Day 2023. With sessions at Miraval in Provence and Soundtree in London, the Bad Seeds added their unique alchemy, with additional performances by Colin Greenwood (bass) and Luis Almau (nylon-string guitar, acoustic guitar).
'Wild God' will be released by Bad Seed in partnership with Play It Again Sam on streaming platforms, CD, and standard and limited edition vinyl. Listen to “Frogs”:
