Testament's last album was released in 2016.
During the Full Metal Jackies , Testament vocalist Chuck Billy said the band hopes to record a new album in 2019. “The plan is to get a lot of riffs out of the tour [that Testament is doing with Slayer ], because we have a lot of time on our hands,” he said. “So when we finish that, we’ll go home and Eric Peterson and I will get together and try to put a bunch of songs together, because the goal is to get into the studio in January and have the album out in April. That’s the goal.”
Billy went on to say that he wants Testament to make a new album every year. “We’ve talked about it, because in our early years we made five consecutive albums, year after year,” he said. “And I think about it, we’d write an album and tour, [go back] to the studio, write an album, tour, there was no break. But you had a great momentum. So, you have to think about it – you don’t want to lose momentum when you have something going on. So, it’s a difficult balance. But if you’re prepared, we’ll go for it.”
Chuck went on to say that the overwhelmingly positive response to Testament's last two albums, 2012's Dark Roots of Earth Brotherhood Of The Snake , puts more pressure on him and his bandmates. But, he said, “I think pressure is good. Since [1999] The Gathering , I think we've been gaining momentum and honing our technique and what Testament is, and especially trying to sound more current than what was established in the '80s or anything else. I think now it's definitely different.”
