Guitarist confirms new Soundgarden album and denies future without Chris Cornell.

Guitarist Kim Thayil spoke about the difficulties of continuing with another vocalist.

Kim Thayil , guitarist for Soundgarden , spoke about the band's future.

The musician confirmed that there are plans to release a final album from the band with material that Chris Cornell recorded before he died. But he also spoke about how there is no intention of moving forward without him.

When discussing the unreleased songs, Kim said, “We definitely have a new album inside us. Material that’s been written, demos that have been recorded – for sure. We just need the audio files to be available. We should release it, it would be ridiculous if we didn’t.”

But unlike AC/DC and Alice In Chains, who moved on with other vocalists, Kim doesn't see the band doing that. "You have a huge part missing. I don't see, given the other commitments the members have and our feelings and love for Chris, I don't see us doing a tour or anything like that, like other bands have done in the past, without him," she said.

“It’s very complicated, but I’ve known Chris since he was a kid, basically – we grew up together in our early twenties. You want to honor the work and the legacy he left behind. Is it better to honor him with dignity and leave him in peace? Do you want to honor him by celebrating the music and the work he did? This has been very difficult for a lot of people in the family and in the band, and I think that was our conclusion.”
