Richie Faulkner revealed in an interview with The Metal Voice that the next Judas Priest is almost finished. Previously, the musician had already stated that the bass, drums, and guitar recordings were complete .
“The songs are almost complete. The songs have been around for a while. We didn’t have the ability to get together and record them because of the COVID pandemic. And when it was over, we would have to go on the road. So we had to record things while we were on tour. We did that. We would do part of the tour and I would come back and record the guitars, then it was the drums. And then we went back on the road. And we had done things around the tour cycle. Now Rob Halford is doing the vocals. So they’re almost finished,” the guitarist said (transcription via Blabbermouth ).
Faulkner went on to talk about the sound of the work: “I’ve said this before, and so has Rob. I said the word progressive and the internet destroyed me. But it didn’t listen. When I said progressive, I would say it’s a bit… instead of, say, verse, chorus, verse, chorus, solo, chorus and ending, it can be verse, musical part, musical section, bridge, chorus, musical section, back to verse. Sometimes it goes a little off track. It’s a bit more progressive; it’s a bit more musical, not experimental, but it has a few more riffs. There are more complexities, there are more solos, which I don’t think is a bad thing as a guitarist.”
Furthermore, the guitarist made it clear that the new album is not a continuation of Firepower (2018).
In January, Halford explained that the project is expected to launch in 2024 .
