Foo Fighters have finished their new studio album, according to Dave Grohl .

Vocalist and guitarist Dave Grohl announced the news during the band's first show of the Australian leg of the Take Cover tour , in Launceston, Tasmania.

The moment happened during the encore, before the Foo Fighters switched to the track "Exhausted," from their self-titled 1995 debut album.

“We’ll be back here sooner than you think. I know when we’ll be back! It’ll be before my next birthday [January 14, 2027], just so you know. And maybe we’ll have a whole new album with songs we just finished the other day,” Grohl said [via NME ].

The Take Cover kicked off in Mexico earlier this month without guitarist Pat Smear , who will miss some shows after breaking his foot . The band also has dates in the UK and Europe.

Foo Fighters haven't released an album since But Here We Are in 2023, their first since the death of drummer Taylor Hawkins .
